The Bend Continues II
At the Valley of the Five Lakes, the emerald water was beautiful, but it was the burned landscape of Jasper that held my attention: dead trees, yellow grass, new shoots. Among the upright trunks, one twisted upward. It seemed to have yielded to the fire, yet its exposed wood broke through the charred surface. To me, its almost supple form suggested a dragon rising.
Around it, solitary trunks, branching limbs, and drooping twigs formed a varied company. I placed the black-and-white and color photographs side by side to extend the scene and bring its contrasts into view. Across the pair, attention shifts; the same landscape takes on a different atmosphere.
Valley of Five Lakes
