About

Color is an alternative way to touch the uncountable dimensional reality. It lives in a different dimension from language; with color we can say what words cannot.

I long for scenes that are complex yet harmonious, always seeking the balance between nature and the human world. A photograph holds both the dream I had when I pressed the shutter and the dream I have when I look at it now. Whether it is real may not matter — I mean true to the seeing, not true to a meter: I was there, this is how it looked to me. I don’t composite; I answer to what I saw. What it records is my eye, my brain, my soul. I was here, at this place, at this moment; this was the thought.

I have stood in a burned forest where blackened snags held one bleached trunk still climbing, and watched a lake double a blazing hillside into perfect patience — the relations were visible before any sentence could hold them.

I am Ang Wei, a photographer based in Scarsdale, New York. My working life has been in mathematics and finance.
